Be great. Do art.

Free, live & interactive online classes in the arts for all NYC Public School kids & teens.

Real artists, writers, dancers, singers, and musicians of every kind are shared their expertise with you. There were over 90+ incredible classes to choose that ran from July 6-August 28.

If you’re a NYC Public School student from 3K – 12th grade (yes, even if you just graduated!) we know that you’re already a ZOOM expert.

Our Mission

Our mission was to ensure access to world-class arts & culture programs for every NYC public school student this past summer!

We provided equal access to world-class, interactive arts and cultural programming to all public school students, regardless of age, race or socio-economic status, during this challenging summer. Because the NYC Department of Education provided tablets and WiFi access to all students, a brand new pathway to arts programming now exists.

For the first time in history, the City had an unprecedented opportunity to create an entirely integrated and level playing field for access to the arts to every NYC public school child.

Summer In The City Program

An extraordinary coalition of the best arts and culture organizations in the world provided a full summer of dynamic programs - from July 6th to August 28th. Each of five daily time slots offered up to twenty interactive virtual programs. That equated to almost 19,000 hours of programming over eight weeks. With an average of twenty students/class, Summer In The City saved the summer for over 1000 NYC public school students.

We confirmed 125+ classes from an incredible selection of the city’s best arts organizations: From the mighty Guggenheim Museum and the Morgan Library, to the Staten Island Zoo, the Queens Botanical Garden, Buglisi Dance, and The Time In Children’s Arts Initiative, the range of options was impressive! Kids had a full palette of incredible choices: Auditioning Shakespearean Monologues, Channeling Your Inner Fashion Designer, Manga through Film, Opera ‘N Art, Circus Training with Parallel Exit and a week of Lunch with Casting Director Avy Kaufman.

We were pleased to be working collaboratively with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, the NYC Department of Education, the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs on this initiative. We are very proud that DCLA Commissioner, Gonzalo Casals and Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs Committee, both took the time to meet with us and expressed their support!
