Lisa Freedman
Lead Teacher Lisa Freedman graduated with honors from Wesleyan University with a degree in Fine Arts and a self-designed major in cultural studies and theory.
Lisa received her MFA from University of Pennsylvania and studied painting and sculpture in New York City at various schools including School of Visual Arts, the Arts Student’s League, and the New York Academy of Art.
She worked as a painter and taught art in New York, including children’s and adult’s programs at Grand Street Settlement House and substitute teaching at The Dalton School.
She came to be involved with HiArt! through her own experience as a parent of a preschool aged child. Because of her own commitment to the visual arts, it was important to her to find an outstanding arts program that would enable her son to find his own voice.
HiArt! allowed Lisa to work with her young child in an atmosphere of mutual exploration. While supporting her son, her own background never overwhelmed his deeply personal responses to the project.
The intelligence and freedom of the pedagogy lead her to become a returning HiArt! family for over a decade, first with her son and later with her younger daughter. When Time In replicated the same excellent program for at-risk students, Lisa became an active volunteer, both in the studio and on trips to various New York galleries and museums, subsequently becoming a central member of the staff. Lisa’s extraordinary sensitivity and experience as an artist and teacher make her an invaluable asset to her work at Time In.
